Arne Slot became the first Liverpool manager in history to win as many as eight of his first nine games — but the Dutchman says his team must improve if they are to kick on and achieve their goals this season.

The Reds dispatched Italian side Bologna with goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Mohamed Salah in either half to make it two wins from two on their Champions League return.

‘We can improve, we have to improve. That is clear. There are positives from tonight and the other games but there was a spell in the game where we (lost) control. They threatened us.’

‘So many incredible managers have worked here and done special things. I hope the only thing people remember me for is not the manager who won eight of his first nine games! I am hoping to do some more special things. But it says a lot about how Jurgen left this club. But again, hoping to do more.’

The victory over Bologna maintained Liverpool’s perfect run in the Champions League this season after they beat AC Milan 3-1 in the opener.

Liverpool’s attention quickly turns towards a midday fixture away to Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The Eagles are winless from six league games and are coming off a 2-1 loss to Everton.
