My friend and I are going to visit Laos. Our flight is in Bangkok, and we intent of taking night train to Ubon, Thailand near Laos border, then a local bus to Chong Mek. We then start to explore Southern Laos and Khong island. Please advise train timetable with fare. Similarly bus ride schedule with road condition and time span. Thank you.

Distance: 575 km, number of depart: 4
There are 3 routines:
– 18:55-6:15
– 20:30 – 7:25
-22:25- 10:20
About fare for ordinary train:
– 2nd class:13 usd/8 eu
– 3rd class: 8usd/5 eu
2, Local bus from Ubon to Chong Mek:
From Thailand a regular bus runs from Ubon Ratchathani to the border town of Chong Mek taking 1-1.5 hours. Sometimes you may be required to change buses as Phibun Mangsahan depending on the bus caught. Once deposited at Chong Mek it is a five minute walk through each crossing and regular songtheaws run from Vang Tao to Pakse, taking about one hour. Visa on arrival is available.
The fare is 200 baht (6 usd)
