We are planing a trip to Laos crossing the Laos border. My question is that we can have our visa done at Embassy of Laos in Italy or we can have it easily upon arrival at Laos border. Which way is safer and cost effective?

Lao enables Italian to get visa on arrival. You need a visa in the form of a tourist visa (for one or possibly two months) issued by a Lao embassy or consulate. The fee for visa on arrival í 35usd for Italian.
A visa allows a staying of up to 30 days. Passports must be valid for at least 6 months on the date of entry
Visas can be also obtained in advance from Lao embassies/consulates. The fee varies by nationality/embassy; USD20 is common, although can be higher. Processing times also vary; 2-3 days is typical,
