Grand Seiko Launches the SBGW325 9S Mechanical Manual-Winding Limited Edition “Arabic Numeral”
Over the past five years, I have written extensively about Grand Seiko watches for *Oracle Time*, but this particular model stands out. Eschewing the brand’s signature intricate dial finishes and nature-inspired motifs, this is a minimalist timepiece featuring a clean dial adorned with Arabic numeral hour markers. It is officially named the SBGW325 9S Mechanical Manual-Winding Limited Edition “Arabic Numeral.”
This watch is a modern interpretation of the SBGW003—a 120th-anniversary model released in 2001 to celebrate Seiko’s founding—which was itself a reinterpretation of early Grand Seiko watches from 1960. Elements of the 2001 SBGW003’s design were created by Nobuhiro Kosugi, Grand Seiko’s design director at the time. It is Kosugi who breathed life into the newly designed Arabic numeral font for the SBGW325, creating a style that harmonizes perfectly with the Grand Seiko logo.
