We are traveling to Vietnam later this year.  We also need to get single-entry visas for Vietnam.

Could you please provide guidance about the best and most cost-effective way to get them?
We will be 8 people on U.S. Passports and one person on a German passport. We will be coming from and returning to Shanghai China.
Is this something you can help us with?

Hello there,
As you know, if you want to travel to Vietnam or any country, you need to get visa. There are 2 ways to get Visa on Vietnam.

  • Getting Visa on “the Internet”

Firstly, you need “Approval letter”. You can get it from companies of Vietnam such as Vietnam Immigration, Vietnam Visa Provider or agencies where you book tours and have to pay small money for them. Filling this letter, print it out together with the “Vietnamese Visa application form”. And then, get your visa stamped at “Visa landing Counter” at the airport before you come to the stamp check-in counter by presenting the Visa approval letter, the original passport (with at least 06-months validity), 02 passport-sized photos, Vietnamese Visa application form (already filled out), and stamping fee.  Stamp fee now is $25 for 1 to 3 months of Visa single entry and you have to pay by cash. However, From August 29,2016, Stamping fee is $135 for all kind of Vietnam visa for USA passport holder is 1 year following new rule of Vietnam Immigration Dept. And there is only one thing you must pay attention is Visa on arrival works for international air travel only, including Noi Bai airport (Ha Noi city), Tan Son Nhat airport (Ho Chi Minh City city), Cam Ranh airport (Nha Trang city) and Da Nang airport (Da Nang city).

  • Getting Visa at Vietnam Embassy

You can come to Vietnam Embassy or consulate of Vietnam in your country or in any country in the world to apply the Visa. You can load the form on this website:

Personally, the cheapest and the most convenient way to get visa is buy “Visa on arriral” (VOA) on the internet. There are 23 countries can come from Vietnam without Visa for 15 days, including German. Therefore, if your group visits Vietnam less 15 days, your German friend doesn’t need to get visa but 8 US people still need get Visa.
I hope these information is helpful for you.
