How is overland trip from KengTung to ChiangKhong?

How is the drive journey from KengTung to ChiangKhong?  Is it the road in good condition? What about the border crossing with the visa formality at Tachiek?

You can get early am bus (around 8am) from Kengtung to Taichileik, arrive there soon after midday, then get a bus or pick-up from Mae Sai to Chiang Khong. The road is good enough.There is no problems with crossing the border at Taichileik-Mae Sai these days.
