On the premier Rangoon to Mandalay route, the express trains are reasonably clean, comfortable and even relatively speedy.  On other routes, don’t expect western standards, as train travel in Burma is an adventure!  Trains are often wonderfully slow, grubby, and fittings such as lights and seats are usually not in the best state of repair.
