Hello,
We plan to travel over land from Hanoi, Vietnam via the Vieng Xai Caves to Vientiane, Laos.
Has anyone have experience with buses or any other transportation (excluding flying)?
If so, what is the travel time and how comfortable were the trips?
Is it also possible to take a car (taxi, private driver) from Vieng Xai to Vientiane?

Hello there,
Travelling from Hanoi to Vientiane, the fastest way is direct flight. This trip takes over 1 hour and the ticket price is quite reasonable. If you go by bus to Vientienne via Vien Xai cave from Hanoi, there is no direct bus. However, you still can go flowing this way: Hanoi-Thanh Hoa- Xam Neua via Viengxai(=the entrance of Vienxai village on NR.6 in Lao side, 53km from “Nam Xoi” Lao borfer/ Viengxai to Xam Neua=28km. So first of all, you have to get taxi, car or train to Thanhh Hoa. You should get to Thanh Hoa on early morning to get the bus in time to avoid staying Thanh Hoa one night. It is also possible if you intend to go from Vienxai to Vientiane by private car or taxi.
You should book ticket in advance by yourself or ask for travel agencies or your hotel to make sure that you can get a comfortable seat for the long trip.
